Human evolution is the best long term nutritional study that we have. We cannot say observational epidemiology is the gold standard.

Studying some of the last remaining hunter/gatherer tribes like the Hadza and Maasai is truly our best study. It’s our “time machine” to know how humans really ate and exercised before industrial agriculture appeared and our modern living situations came to be.
