FLATTENING the CURVE and CORONAVIRUS



This phrase has been thrown around a lot, but what does it mean🧐? The idea here isn’t that less people will get coronavirus, but that the same number of people will be exposed to this virus (social distancing probably won’t change how many of us are eventually exposed) over a LONGER amount of time. As you’ll notice on both of these graphs, the area under the curve (AUC) is the same for both of the bell shaped curves, but in the dark gray curve the peak is much lower and the timeframe on the x-axis is much more drawn out.
